The Big Purple Lap

By Chop's Journey's & The Harley Roadshow

My Story

Wayne was a remarkable individual—genuine, kind, and a true friend. Over many years of friendship, I witnessed his deep love for his family, his devotion as a father to his daughter and stepchildren, and the extraordinary bond he shared with his partner. Wayne’s zest for life and his ability to bring joy to those around him were truly inspiring.

After experiencing persistent abdominal pain, Wayne sought medical advice on several occasions. Eventually, after months of consultations and tests, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Despite this devastating news, Wayne approached his treatment with unwavering positivity and determination, beginning chemotherapy with the firm belief that he could overcome the disease.

Witnessing Wayne’s rapid decline was heartbreaking. The transformation from his vibrant self to someone so unwell was difficult to bear. He struggled with severe pain and nausea, and it was evident how much he suffered as the illness progressed. Within a few months, Wayne’s condition became terminal, and the changes were profound. His journey deeply affected me, serving as a powerful reminder of life’s fragility and the importance of cherishing every moment.

Wayne passed away on my birthday four years ago. Since then, I have felt a strong desire to support others facing pancreatic cancer and to contribute to research and awareness efforts. Discovering Pankind, an organization making a tangible difference in this field, inspired me to take action.

Motivated by Wayne’s memory, I conceived the idea of riding my Harley-Davidson around the perimeter of Australia as a fundraising initiative for Pankind. This ambitious journey, now known as “The Big Purple Lap,” will cover over 13,800 kilometres in just 13 days. I am joined by my close friend Paul, and together we are committed to honouring Wayne and all those affected by pancreatic cancer. While this ride will be a significant challenge, it pales in comparison to the battle faced by those living with this disease.

Previously, I have organized and hosted charity rides, including “5 States in 5 Days” a ride for the Kids with Cancer Foundation, and community motorcycle rides supporting The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and The Formal Project. Each of these efforts has raised several thousand dollars for these worthy causes, but none have matched the scale of this current mission!

Our goal is to raise over $30,000 to support Pankind’s vital work. Through this endeavour, we hope to make a meaningful contribution to the fight against pancreatic cancer and to honour Wayne’s legacy.

Support my fundraiser to fight pancreatic cancer and save lives.

Right now, 75 Australians will die from pancreatic cancer every week, and 12 people will be diagnosed every day. These are devastating statistics that I am determined to help to improve.

Your donation will help fund cutting-edge medical research and much needed patient support programs that will improve outcomes for people impacted by pancreatic cancer.

Together, we will bring hope to those impacted by pancreatic cancer and help save lives.
